Simple Home Organization Ideas That Actually Work With Kids
Keeping a Home Organized with little ones doesn't mean everything has to be perfect. I've found that simple systems and small habits can make a big difference in keeping our home functional, less cluttered, and easier to maintain. Here are a few things that actually work for our family.

With two little ones, I've learned that keeping a home organized isn't about making everything perfect. It's about creating simple systems that are easy to maintain even when it gets busy. If I feel that an area is becoming a problem space, I try to create a simple solution for that specific area. Here are a few of my most helpful tips to help implement these solutions into your home.
Give everything a home
I often find that every family has a "catch-all" space. Whether it's the dining room table (us), kitchen island, hallway closet, or even a bedroom chair, these spaces can quickly become places where everything gets dropped. And before we even realize it, that clutter can create more stress and make our homes feel more chaotic than they actually are.
One thing I've been working on in our home is being more intentional about these spaces. Instead of trying to organize the entire house all at once, I like to start with the areas that seem to collect the most clutter. But before we start assigning homes to items, I highly, highly, highly recommend you start by decluttering. There's no point in finding the perfect place for something that you don't actually need or use. Start by getting rid of the things that are taking up space, and then you can focus on creating a home for the things you actually want to keep.
Once you've decluttered, you can start giving everything a home. All that matters is that the space makes sense for you and your family. It doesn't have to look like everyone else's organization system, it can be perfectly tailored for your own lifestyle. And once those items have a home, the goal is simple: instead of putting it down, we put it away.
Once you know what tends to collect in your catch-all space, having the right tools can make it much easier to keep those areas under control. Here are a few of my favorite simple organizers for the things that tend to pile up around the house.
Make your home work for your family
One thing I've learned is that organization doesn't have to look a certain way to be effective. The best system is the one that works for your family. If you use something every day, keep it somewhere that's easy to access. If your kids use something often, make sure they can actually reach it. And if something always ends up in the same place, maybe that's telling you it belongs there.
I've stopped trying to organize my home based on where I think things should go and started paying attention to how we actually use our space. When your organization works with your everyday routines instead of against them, it's so much easier to maintain.
Make the nightly reset simple
One thing that has made a big difference for me is not waiting until the house is completely messy to clean it. With kids, that can feel like an impossible task. Instead, I like to do a quick reset at the end of the day. I'll put toys back where they belong, clear off the main surfaces, put away anything that was left out, and get things ready for the next morning. I don't try to deep clean my entire house every night. The goal is simply to reset the spaces we use the most. Even 10 minutes can make a huge difference in how the house feels when you wake up the next morning.
Having a few simple tools makes this easier, too. The house doesn't have to be perfect before bed. I just want to wake up to a home that feels reset instead of overwhelming. A simple thing you can do is keep a reset basket for anything that belongs in another room, then put everything away afterward or as you go.
At the end of the day, I've learned that an organized home doesn't have to mean a perfect home. With kids, life is going to get messy, and that's okay. For me, it's about having simple systems that make our everyday life easier, decluttering what we don't need, giving the things we use a home, and taking a few minutes to reset each night. You don't have to tackle your entire home at once. Start with one small space, find what works best for your family, and build from there. Before you know it, those little changes can make your home feel lighter, calmer, and much easier to maintain.
