Between work, kids, appointments, bills, school schedules, and everything else that somehow ends up on my mental to-do list, I've learned that I cannot rely on my mom brain to remember everything. I needed one place to see what's coming, keep everything from piling up, and keep our life from getting even more chaotic. That's where our family command center comes in.

It doesn't have to be a huge wall covered in perfectly matching organizers. Mine is simply a collection of a few things that help keep our family, home, and schedule organized and easy to manage. Here are a few of my favorites. They're only the things I think are worth it & ACTUALLY work for my family.

  1. Centralized Calendar

Whether it's a paper calendar, whiteboard calendar, or chalkboard calendar, one calendar in a place that's easy for everyone to see and access is key. I keep ours on our fridge, but it can be placed wherever it is most convenient for you and your family. My favorite part about this is how customizable it is, from where you place it to which one you choose.

On the calendar, I can easily jot down appointments, due dates, activities, even what's for dinner each night. Having it in a shared space can also make it helpful for everyone in the family to know what's coming up, makes it easy to access, and serves as a constant reminder every time you use that space.

  1. Mail Organizer

One of my worst habits is letting mail sit and pile up. My dining room table becomes a catch-all, and eventually I get too overwhelmed to go through it all. To resolve this problem, I implemented a simple fix: a two-compartment mail organizer. The first compartment serves as a to-do section. Here I put any bills, forms, school papers, or anything that requires me to do something with the mail. The second compartment is for filing. This can be any important papers worth keeping, receipts, completed forms, or anything else that is ready to be put away. Anything else is recycled immediately. This system keeps our mail organized, contained, and gives me a designated place to deal with everything when I have the time.

  1. Entryway Drop Zone

In our entryway, we can tend to drop items as soon as we enter our home. I found that our keys, wallet, sunglasses, work badge, and everything else all needed a designated home where we could quickly and easily set them down and just as easily grab everything on our way out. My favorite has been this entryway table and shoe storage. If you are willing to splurge and have the space, this option is both beautiful and extremely useful. And if you're on a budget, something as simple as this shoe storage with drawers would work great.

Whatever works for your family will be perfect. With so many options, the possibilities are endless. As long as your items are contained, your space will look and feel instantly better.

  1. Organizers

Speaking of catch-alls, one of the simplest ways I made countless spaces in my home feel organized is by using organizers. In our entryway drawer, you can use an organizer like this one to keep everything in order. In the kitchen, I like to use tools such as drawer dividers, drawer organizers, bins for the fridge and pantry, pot and pan organizers, and spice organizers, just to list a few. For toys, I use big baskets. In our dressers, I use drawer organizers. Every problem space can have a simple solution (just don't forget to declutter a little as you work your way through the space)

And of course, not everything needs to be completely perfect all at once. Start with your smallest space or the space that is bothering you the most and fix that first. Afterwards, you can continue with small fixes throughout your home to make your space feel more organized and clean.
