Things I'm Learning as a Mom of Two Under Two

Motherhood has taught me that simple really can be better. As a mom of two little ones, I'm learning to let go of perfection, embrace routines, and make space for the little moments that matter. Here are a few things I'm learning along the way.

  1. Becoming Organized Will Be A Lifesaver!

Something I do to make sure I stay on track is use a fridge calendar. I keep track of appointments, games, outings, and even what we're having for dinner all in once place. Having everything there makes it so much easier to see what's coming up. Plus, you can easily make changes when needed.

Another way I make things more functional is by decluttering and organizing one small space at a time. Take one bite-sized section of your home, declutter it, then organize it. Even something as small as a bathroom drawer will be moving toward improvement.

I promise, you'll feel a little lighter and less stressed every time you reach for something in that space. Taking it one step at a time is key. Don't overdo it! We have babies who need our attention, too. But before you know it, those little spaces will start adding up, and your home will feel more organized.

  1. Only the Essentials When Going Out

Everyone has their preferences when it comes to diaper bags. I like a purse, while my husband likes a tactical backpack. But regardless of what you prefer, compartments are a must! Having everything organized in your bag makes it so much easier to find what you need when you need it. If you really are in love with a bag without compartments, these containers are a lifesaver.

If you baby-wear, there are endless options, and it could be a lifesaver when you need to keep your hands free to chase around that toddler.

And of course: bottles. I've pumped, breastfed, and formula-fed, so I've been through all of it and have found solutions that work for each stage. I understand that they are all vastly different and require different tools. From pump bangs to milk storage, I've saved my go-to essentials for breastfeeding, formula feeding, and pumping.

For your toddler, practical little activities can go a long way. Things like Little People, drawing pads, mini magnatiles, or small toys can help keep them busy at the restaurant table while you're waiting for your food. I have a few of my favorites linked here. And don't forget their mini fork and spoon!

I also always keep a change of clothes, diapers, wipes, and a diaper rash cream in the bag. And here's one of my favorite little mom hacks: tiny trash bags for dirty diapers and blowout clothes. Because... well, sh*t happens.

Obviously, everyone's essentials will look a little different, but I've found that having the basics organized and ready to go makes leaving the house with two little ones a whole lot easier.

  1. Handle Those Toys the Easy Way

I do a toy rotation every week or two, and I usually only have about six toys out at a time, plus a few stuffies. Keeping a small rotation helps my toddler stay interested in her toys, keeps my space cleaner, and makes our nightly reset so much easier. Less clean up = less to think about!

For toys with multiples, like blocks, I keep them together in storage baskets. The rest can be displayed on a shelf where they're easy for her to see and grab. The organization system I use is a cube organizer. I keep a simple mix of things available, like two books, blocks, pretend play, and a few other toys. When it's time to rotate, I simply swap things out.

You don't need a huge playroom full of toys to keep your little one entertained. I've found that having fewer choices actually makes playtime easier and makes cleanup a whole lot easier for me.

Motherhood doesn't have to be perfectly organized to feel manageable. I'm still figuring things out every day, but I've found that keeping things simple, staying organized, and focusing on what actually works for our family makes life a little easier. With two little ones, I'm learning to give myself some grace, too. Some days everything gets done, and some days it doesn't. And that's perfectly okay.
